The Long Season...

There is no doubt in any SJU fans mind that this season was a tough one to watch. When looking at this team there seemed to be a lack of experience, skill, and confidence. This team struggled throughout the entire season, making mistake after mistake. However, there were some bright spots that prove this team has a future in the A-10 and may be extremely competitive by the end of next season.

DeAndre Bembry
If you ask anyone who watches the A-10 who the best player is, most would agree DeAndre. Even though Bembry played extremely well he did not win A-10 Player of the Year this season. However, as a sophomore he showed much maturity. DeAndre proved time after time that he is the best player not only on the Hawks, but in the league as well. The only issue that Bembry had this season is that he tried too hard, and he tried to do too much. This became most apparent in A-10 tournament. Bembry forced too many shots and tried to do too much defensively. DeAndre is a great player, and will play in the NBA, however as of right now this team is not built around him. This team needs a strong Point Guard and a pure shooter to make DeAndre reach his fullest potential. Bembry’s ability will take this team extremely far in the near future, but as of now it is a waiting game.

Jai Williams
Williams is clearly a player with the most upside on this team, besides Bembry. Even though Jai didn’t not play much this season, every time he was on the court he made an impact. The 6-9 Forward clearly understands the game, and understands how to use his body to score. The main problem with Jai was his conditioning, if he can keep himself in shape he will be a strong presence underneath. Williams already has quick feet and the height needed to be a strong center in the A-10. Jai Williams has proven that he will be a much better presence in the middle then Javon. Look for Jai to get more minutes next season.

James Demery and Isaiah Miles
These two guys were packaged together because showed us some flashes of brilliance throughout the season. However, they were not consistent enough to bring success to the Hawks. If this team wants to become successful, they must have production from these two guys. Miles has a very nice shot and is strong on the inside. However, he needs to shoot better from the field. Demery is a very good wing guard and gets to the rim. But, in some cases he thinks he’s the entire team. These two players need to become more consistent for success to be found on Hawk Hill.

When looking at this season, it was clear that it was lost to start. However, we did get to observe great play from DeAndre. This team has potential, and this team can get to the March Madness Tournament. Hawk fans just need to wait, because by DeAndre’s senior year this team will be great.

NFL Shock

The NFL this offseason has been a complete shock to many football fans. Especially for Eagles fans, this offseason has been one we won’t soon forget. The Eagle’s moves will either be viewed as the best or worst moves in history.  Either way the Eagles organization is one big complete Chiptatorship. However, the Eagles have not been the only team this offseason that have made moves. Below we have gone through the most impactful moves so far.

Brandon Marshall-Jets
This is no longer the Rex Ryan age in New York. This team has become an instant competitor with the addition of the superstar wide receiver. There is no doubt in any NFL fans mind that this team is not done either. As many people know, Geno is not the QB of the future nor is he the guy that will be able to propel Brandon Marshall into greatness.

Jimmy Graham-Seahawks
Jimmy Graham has become a Seattle Seahawk. This is probably the biggest steal of the offseason. The Seahawks are automatically Super Bowl contenders again. With the addition of Graham, there is no doubt in my mind that they will be one of the best teams in the NFL again. Graham adds an offensive presence that the team was missing on the receiving end. Graham is a star amongst stars; playing on a team with players such as Lynch, Wilson, and Sherman. The Seahawks have become better than they were before. They are definitely candidates to be in the Superbowl for the 3rd consecutive season.

LeSean McCoy- Bills
The Bills have been a team of mediocrity for the past several years. In the past, the Bills fans have not had much to cheer for.  However, with players like Sam Watkins, EJ Manuel, C.J. Spiller, and now McCoy there is no doubt they are going in the right direction. EJ Manuel and Matt Cassel are competing for the starting QB position. Rex Ryan had something to prove since coming to the Bills and it is obvious that he has made a huge splash with this move.  Rex may change his coaching strategy because of the new personnel that he has.

Julius Thomas-Jaguars
The Jaguars are another team that in recent years have been absolutely dreadful to watch. However, with a stable young QB it looks as though the team has finally found legs to stand on. Now with the addition of Julius Thomas, this team is moving in the right direction on the offensive side of things. Thomas adds depth to the pass game, which is already strong with players like Shorts and Herns. Look for Thomas to be a huge impact this season on his new team.

MCW Gone... Now What?

February 19, 2015, that is a date that will stick in the minds of many Sixers fans to come. On that date the Sixers moved their star Point Guard Michael Carter Williams. Though the Sixers are a young team filled with potential. MCW was clearly the star, the guy that was going to lead the Sixers into the future. Not only was he the leader of this team, but he was a fan favorite. What MCW brought to Philadelphia, his love for the city and the Sixers, will be hard to replace. The question now is, what do the Sixers plan to do in the future.

From the trades made during the trade deadline the Sixers, now have the potential to have three first round picks. Two of those picks will be in the top ten as long as the Lakers fall out of the top five and the other pick will fall in the twenties. With these picks the Sixers can take another step in the right direction, and this MCW trade will viewed as a step towards the future. The reason they wanted to move MCW, was because they wanted to open the space for a star.  That star is going to be Emmanuel Mudiay. Mudiay is an 18year old Point Guard from the Congo, who is now playing for the Guangdong Southern Tigers in China. The young Point Guard chose to play in China for a large contract, rather then go to college. Since playing in China, Mudiay has dominated scoring 17.7ppg, 6rebounds, and 5.9assists. The kid is truly the star that the Sixers will need. Mudiay will most likely go 2nd overall to the Sixers and will be a much better fit for the team then MCW was.

Knowing the moves made by Sam Hinkie, it is uncertain, which direction the team will go with their other first round choices. Do not be surprised if the team brings in a good Shooting Guard such as Justise Winslow out of Duke. This team is starting to move in the right direction. In the eyes of many Sixers fans it became apparent that Nerlens or MCW would have to be moved. Nerlens looks as though he is staying put where he is and will be a great force with Embiid in the future. Next season this team will compete with a lineup that hopefully has: Muiday, Winslow, Covington, Noel, and Embiid. Be ready for an NBA Championship Philadelphia, because it will happen.
