Now that the hottest sport of the summer is officially over, it is time to reflect about this year’s Women’s World Cup. The USA was finally able to get over that hump and win it all this season for the first time since 1999. If you remember that 99’ season, you would remember that it helped grow the popularity of women’s sports. However, since then we have seen an up and down graph of the popularity of these sports. Looking at this past World Cup, it has become apparent that this time it will be different.
With entertainment only a touch of the finger away, it is apparent now that social media will help the growth of women’s sports everywhere. It is the job of these World Cup Champions, to use their power for the good of the world. It is their job to take control, showing kids that if you put your mind to something it can occur. We have been waiting for a Women’s team like this to captivate us, and finally we were able to see it. No matter the age or gender you could see people coming together to celebrate the World Cup victory. This team has to keep up the good work, to help push not only soccer in America, but women’s sports as well. It should be the goal of Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Julie Johnston to become ambassadors for the game to get young women to want to play the sport.
It is time in the USA for a women’s sport to finally take off. After this World Cup it is the opportunity that we have been waiting for. With these women being such high profile athletes in not only the USA but in the world as well. Women’s soccer in the U.S. is on the verge of blowing up. It is time to take advantage of the sport’s growing popularity and give these young female athlete’s somebody to root for. A female athlete is an idol now in the world of sports. As the growth of this sport continues and the popularity of these athletes increase, it is time to push it to the forefront to help make a change on the viewpoint of sports everywhere.
