The Phillies Becoming Relevant?

With summer slowly coming to an end, it has come apparent that the Phillies are finally moving on from their past tribulations. The Phillies have been playing much better baseball.  The recent trade of Hamels and Utley no longer a starter for the team, shows that they are finally moving past 2008. The trades that the Phillies have made this past deadline have brought some promising prospects into the organization. Now that the Phillies have new talent in their farm-system paired with their existing talent, it looks as though the Phillies may have a future after all.

Young pitching like Aaron Nola, Kenny Giles and Adam Morgan has shown that these guys are worthy of sticking around with the Phillies for a long time in the future. Nola has shown that he can live up to the hype and get major league hitters out. Giles has proven time after time this season that he can close and that he will be around for a long time as this team’s closer. Adam Morgan has shown that he can pitch his way out of trouble. Though he has had some bad outings, I can tell that he has potential and can be a big league starter.

On the hitting side Franco has been the only young guy that has truly proven himself. Franco has made adjustments throughout the season whenever he is in trouble or struggling. He has shown that he can play in the big leagues, and that he is the guy to build the team around. Though Herrera is young and has shown us flashes of brilliance, I am not sold on him yet. I will need to see Herrera have a better approach at the plate to make me believe that he can stick around for a long time.

The Phillies are beginning to move in the right direction. The team is playing much better recently and that is because of the youth making their presence felt. These young guys have proven that they can compete in the MLB, and Pete Mackanin has proven he can get the talent out of them. This has now become a waiting game. It will likely still take a few years until this team can compete. It will not take long for the Phillies to become relevant again in this town if they continue their recent success.

What the future of the 2015 World Cup Champions hold

Now that the hottest sport of the summer is officially over, it is time to reflect about this year’s Women’s World Cup. The USA was finally able to get over that hump and win it all this season for the first time since 1999. If you remember that 99’ season, you would remember that it helped grow the popularity of women’s sports. However, since then we have seen an up and down graph of the popularity of these sports. Looking at this past World Cup, it has become apparent that this time it will be different.

With entertainment only a touch of the finger away, it is apparent now that social media will help the growth of women’s sports everywhere. It is the job of these World Cup Champions, to use their power for the good of the world. It is their job to take control, showing kids that if you put your mind to something it can occur. We have been waiting for a Women’s team like this to captivate us, and finally we were able to see it. No matter the age or gender you could see people coming together to celebrate the World Cup victory.  This team has to keep up the good work, to help push not only soccer in America, but women’s sports as well. It should be the goal of Carli Lloyd, Alex Morgan, Julie Johnston to become ambassadors for the game to get young women to want to play the sport.

It is time in the USA for a women’s sport to finally take off. After this World Cup it is the opportunity that we have been waiting for. With these women being such high profile athletes in not only the USA but in the world as well. Women’s soccer in the U.S. is on the verge of blowing up. It is time to take advantage of the sport’s growing popularity and give these young female athlete’s somebody to root for. A female athlete is an idol now in the world of sports. As the growth of this sport continues and the popularity of these athletes increase, it is time to push it to the forefront to help make a change on the viewpoint of sports everywhere.

Chip's Vision

I cannot wait to go to training camp and watch great Eagles players like Nick Foles, Jeremy Maclin, LeSean McCoy, Evan Mathis, and Trent Cole. WAIT WHAT!?!?!!? They are no longer on the team?!!?? Whoever is in charge of the Eagles must be an idiot!

Chip Kelly decided that these players were no longer worth keeping on the team. Although it is not completely his idea as he gets input from other coaches and personnel, he does make the final decisions. Therefore, the decision to not hold onto these players were certainly not knee-jerk. Chip is a philosophical guy that has a vision of how he wants the team to be. These team decisions were carried-out to help the Eagles move in a direction to achieve Chip's vision.

When Chip became the head coach of the Eagles, his creative play calling was limited because of the players he inherited. Eagles fans were expecting innovative and action-filled plays like Kelly ran in Oregon.

Culture. Culture. Culture. Chip Kelly fully believes that culture is more important to a team than scheme. Any head coach would want players to buy in their system. Without buying in the team cannot perform as the coach desires. Chip wants players to be discipline and follow his regimen. If Coach Kelly was in charge of the Sixers in 00-01, he would have released Allen Iverson. Chip will do what it takes to put together a team that plays the kind of football that he envisions. This years team is one step closer to molding the team.

The rate that Chip Kelly has pushed his vision and turned the roster over is outstanding. There probably has never been an organization inside or outside of football that has implemented their own guys on board faster than he did. Chip is not only talking about his ideas, he is following through with them. The rate that the roster has been turned-over was accomplished at a staggering rate. Additionally, it was done without having a losing record. No matter what the changes Eagles undergo, they will still be the Eagles. Just remember there is a reason for the changes, achieving his vision.
